Spring 2017 Book Discussions
Why Students Resist Learning: A Practical Model for Understanding and Helping Students
Join us this Spring to discuss the book, Why Students Resist Learning: A Practical Model for Understanding and Helping Students (Tolman and Kremling, 2016).
The purpose of this book is to help us understand the various causes of student resistance to learning and provide solutions that will help facilitate learning in the classroom. In this book we will discover an innovative integrated model that accounts for student behaviors and creates a foundation for intentional and informed discussion, evaluation, and the development of effective counter strategies. The model takes into account institutional context, environmental forces, students’ prior negative classroom experiences, their cognitive development, readiness to change, and metacognition.
This book group will meet on four Fridays this semester (1/27, 2/10, 2/24, and 3/17) from 12:30-1:45. We will provide the book and lunch at all sessions. To register, please email Kristi Verbeke (email@example.com). These discussions are very popular so we ask that you register only if you are available to attend all sessions.
